We are a non-profit organization (under Belgian Law) dedicated to providing support to the European biomedical research community with issues regarding data protection (data privacy).
The CDP is a multidisciplinary group that originates from the EU FP6 ACGT research project (ACGT - “Advancing Clinico Genomic Trails on cancer”).
The Center for Data Protection is a spin-off of the EU FP6 ACGT research project in which an international biomedical research network was established. During this project we came to the conclusion that in order to properly (i.e. compliant to legislation and regulations) address data protection, an independent legal body that could act as Data Controller according to the European Data Protection Directive was required.
We are convinced that a large number of international research collaborations are in the same situation as ACGT was.
Are you? If so, you can benefit from the knowledge already built up through EU research.
The CDP can provide you with assistance in dealing with complex data protection issues on an international level by offering access to a multidisciplinary pool of expertise. Additionally through the CDP we have created an independent non-profit organization which can act as "data controller" for your project in the sense of the European Directive 95/46/EC on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data.
The CDP was founded during the ACGT EU project, acting as data-controller for the international research collaboration.
The CDP is acting as data controller for the P-Medicine consortium (2011 - 2015) in the same way.
The CDP will act as support site (Informed Consent Helpdesk) for the CONTRACT project after it finishes.
